As you know, we’re sponsoring Prof. Rob Wynn, the Consultant Paediatric Haematologist from Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital who is cycling all 21 stages of the Tour de France route, to raise funds for Cure Leukaemia. Every few stages he’ll be sending over short films, created especially for C&C, giving us an inside view of what it’s really like being faced with, and going through this unimaginable challenge.
This clip was taken after stage 5 – the first proper mountain climb. The steepness of the ascents is graded from 5 to 1, 1 being the steepest. And then there is an HC. This is a climb that goes off the scale… beyond a 1. Rob faced two HCs on stage 5 and you can tell from this footage just what he had to put his body and mind through, to somehow complete the day.
He is at great pains to stress that he’s not a professional cyclist. He’s an amateur cyclist, a haematologist – someone who wants all of this pain to do some good for children suffering from leukaemia.
