RFU Selects Stockport Rugby Club to Champion Women’s Rugby

Added on: March 11, 2025

Stockport Rugby Union FC recently hosted an RFU event supporting their Impact 25 campaign promoting women’s rugby ahead of the 2025 World Cup. The global event takes place in August across eight English cities and will undoubtedly propel even greater interest in the sport.

The Impact 25 campaign began a couple of years ago and was created to attract women and girls into the sport at a younger age. Traditionally, university was the usual entry point for women pursuing an interest in rugby. Thanks to the investment of the Impact 25 campaign, girls as young as U12s are now entering the sport.

As a long-time supporter of Stockport RUFC, we were delighted to see that The Independent had covered the promotional event and that the new stand at The Memorial Ground – the home of SRUFC – had been used as a backdrop!

Malcolm Cooke, MD of C&C, says: “This is another great news story, not only for rugby but for Stockport rugby club. At a time when many rugby clubs are struggling to turn out full teams for men’s senior social rugby, Stockport is flying. There are four men’s teams, plus a Vets, The Scarlets women’s rugby team, The All Stars, walking and touch rugby teams and a thriving Minis & Juniors section. It can only happen with community and business support working in tandem with great coaching and vision from the club itself. The RFU holding this event at Stockport is a great testament to all the things the club is doing so well, and we’re delighted to be a part of it.”

C&C have been a commercial partner with Stockport RUFC since 2012 and recently joined the club in celebrating Dom Hanson scoring a try on his debut for England U20s in the Six Nations. Dom came through the Minis & Juniors and Colts at Stockport and is a fantastic ad for the importance of businesses supporting local community clubs at a grassroots level.
