Driving With Sharks: C&C Tee Up Another Cracking Golf Day

Added on: April 16, 2026

It was yet another brilliant day of golf, giggles and gaffs at the Sale Sharks annual Golf Day, sponsored by C&C. The rain stayed off until the tail end of the day, (a big win in itself); whilst not all vintage, the standard of golf was pretty high, (an even bigger win): and the banter flowed with all 16 teams thoroughly enjoying themselves (the biggest win of all!)

Impeccably hosted by Sharks’ very own Mark Cueto and Josh Beaumont, the day took place on the superbly maintained Mottram Hall course. Josh did a fine job of multi-tasking by also taking part in the play, but graciously not with the Sale Sharks team, which mysteriously secured a 2nd place finish! Naturally, no eyebrows were raised! At all. Not one!

The Sharks were out in force too, with Eva Wood, Molly Wright, Nick James, Ernst Van Rhyn, Ben Bamber, Joe Carpenter, Dan Du Preez, Tom Burrow, Scott Needham, Team Manager and Director of Rugby Alex Sanderson all adding a proper rugby edge to proceedings. We were also privileged to be joined by Sale Sharks owners, Simon and Michelle Orange.

But in a twist nobody saw coming, it was a cricket legend who won the Nearest-The-Fin bragging rights on his very first drive of the day. Lancs & England wicket-keeper – and long-time C&C friend, Warren Hegg, left golfers everywhere quietly reconsidering their life choices!

C&C were ably represented by teams from both sides of the Pennines, with Malc and Tom going head-to-head with their traditional covert competitiveness! It would be unfair to say which team finished higher, but suffice to say that it may be a little early in the season to see white roses in full bloom!

The day was claimed by IPEX (and they look pretty pleased with themselves!), but proved a winner for everyone.

Huge thanks to Mottram Hall and George Crawshaw & Lynsey Robinson from Sale Sharks for pulling the day together and for making sure everything ran like a Swiss timepiece. Thanks also to our own Debbi Smith for all the organising from our side, as well as sourcing the branding, merchandise and working so closely with Lynsey.

There were a couple of C&C firsts too, with Miles Cooke playing a C&C host role on this golf day, and Hugo Cooke playing the course and joining his Dad’s team to secure a fifth-place finish!

Malc summed the event up perfectly: “These days are always such great fun. We’re Sharks’ longest-running commercial partner, but these occasions never tire. It’s always fantastic to catch up with the Sharks players, both past and present, the management team, but also to share laughs and tales with staff and other businesses. I’d be the first to admit, not every ball landed where we’d hoped, but the company, the organisation and the day as a whole, never misses.”
