C&C Scotland have plenty to shout about. It’s five years since Lauren Kerr opened the doors to our Scottish office and how things have changed. We’re now an established presence in the insurance sector, especially amongst hauliers, commercial and agricultural businesses as well as the wider community through sponsorships. And now, Daniel Graham joins us as a Development Executive to keep driving that momentum.
Daniel may only have been with C&C Scotland for a matter of weeks, but it’s immediately obvious he’s brought more than just experience to the team. He arrives with infectious enthusiasm, a genuine passion for meeting people and helping businesses, and a sporting background that has shaped the way he approaches both work and life.
Before a career in insurance, Daniel spent years pursuing a real boys-own ambition. Having progressed through the youth ranks at Annan Athletic, he was offered a professional contract at just 16 years old before later playing semi-professionally for both Annan and Gretna. Along the way he experienced everything from playing at some of Scotland’s biggest stadiums to helping Gretna rebuild following the club’s well-publicised financial collapse.
Looking back, he describes football as an incredible experience that taught him resilience, teamwork and how to handle setbacks; qualities that have proved just as valuable in business as they were on the pitch. But, contrary to many in his situation, rather than put all his eggs in one basket, Daniel chose to continue his education alongside football, studying Business and Finance at university. During that time, he also secured an administrative role with a financial advice firm, where he gained exposure to mortgages, life protection and general insurance.
Although he qualified as a mortgage adviser, it quickly became clear which area really interested him. “I liked the variety of commercial insurance,” Daniel explains. “Every day I was speaking to different business owners. One person owned a garage, another ran a haulage company, someone else had a construction business. Every conversation was different and I really enjoyed that.”
That passion eventually led him into commercial insurance full-time, where he built a strong reputation for winning new business across Dumfries and Galloway. Thanks to years spent playing football and golf throughout the region, Daniel had already developed an extensive local network and quickly established himself within the business community.
But as his ambitions grew, so did his desire for greater flexibility in the markets he could access. “I wanted somewhere I could really help clients without feeling restricted,” he says. “Having access to a wider range of insurers means you can find the right solution rather than trying to make a client fit a particular product.”
It was during this search that C&C caught his attention. Having already noticed the company’s growing presence across the region through its sponsorship of Annan Athletic, Daniel was impressed by its commitment to supporting the local community. “People notice when businesses genuinely invest in local communities,” he says. “That’s something I really liked about C&C. It shows they’re committed to the area rather than just doing business there.”
The deciding factor, however, came during his conversations with C&C Scotland Director, Lauren Kerr. “It just felt right from the first conversation,” Daniel says. “Lauren was so personable and we shared the same outlook. Building long-term relationships with clients, being there when they need you and treating people properly are all things that are really important to me.”
Now settling into life with C&C Scotland, Daniel is excited by the opportunities ahead. “I’m looking forward to getting out on the road, meeting new businesses and helping grow C&C’s presence across Scotland. There’s a fantastic opportunity here to build the brand across the Borders, Dumfries & Galloway, the Central Belt and beyond. Being able to represent a business with the resources and ambition that C&C has is something I’m really excited about.”
Away from work, football still plays a big part in Daniel’s life. Although the days of professional training grounds have been replaced by Sunday league football, his competitive streak remains as strong as ever. When he’s not pulling on his boots, he’s usually out on the golf course or spending time walking his two dogs, Mal and Lola.
Lauren says: “For C&C Scotland, Daniel represents far more than just a new recruit. The timing is perfect as we target the next five years of growth. He’s ambitious, driven, well-connected within the local business community and genuinely passionate about helping clients succeed. With his energy, relationship-first approach and winning mentality, we’re already looking forward to him making his mark and helping write the next chapter in our expansion. Welcome to the team, Daniel!”
