C&C Chester has been out and about in the local region recently, supporting causes close to our heart through two very different sporting endeavours. However, one such event may be stretching the term ‘sporting’ to its very limits, in that we had an entry in the Pantomime Horse Race at Chester Racecourse.
That said, Mule Runnings – a thoroughbred donkey – proved to be more athlete than ass, by finishing the crowded field of over 20 runners, in second place! (Mule originally came home in 5th position, but the Stewards quite rightly ruled out two horses and a donkey for becoming separated or suffering wardrobe failure, just yards from the post!)
The event, (and the first on the racecard!) was in support of Hospice of the Good Shepherd, which provides specialist palliative care for people across the Cheshire and Merseyside region. C&C Chester has supported this fabulous charity across many events now, but this one went global through Sky Sports coverage. You can see their hilarious commentary of the race here!
The total raised so far has exceeded £40,000, which is phenomenal for a one-minute race of camels, unicorns, donkeys and a handful of horses! A massive well done to Traff, Anita and Alex for getting Mule and the C&C foray into horseracing across the line! If you missed the opportunity to contribute to their fundraising success, fear not! And if you’re wondering who did the actual donkey work… we have to offer special thanks to Harry Barnett and Matthew Dixon who were chomping on the bit to take on the challenge, on our behalf. These chaps are athletes in their own right, being members of Chester Hockey Club, where Alex coaches and plays. We thank you for your service!
Traff and Tom (Director of C&C Leeds) found themselves in more familiar territory last week when they took part in the Sedulo Foundation annual golf day. C&C Chester was one of the main sponsors and the boys were joined by two of our longstanding clients, Chris Whittaker and Ian Hall from Platts Agriculture Ltd. Sedulo Foundation support disadvantaged children from across our region and it was a real privilege to be able to once again, put our name to this event.
Now – don’t be surprised – but their golf was pretty good! They finished 6th out of 20 teams but were only 3 points off the top spot – not too shabby at all. The question is, who missed all those putts? (And I have it on good authority, there were a few!)

The serious stuff is about raising funds so that these causes can continue to deliver their wonderful and essential work in our local communities. But to have some fun along the way, and to wrap it up with such great teams of people just amplifies the whole experience. I’d encourage anyone in business to get involved with these two charities and to enjoy the double reward of making other people’s lives a little more comfortable, whilst having a blast doing so.
