C&C Bowled Over By Inaugural Cricket Club Sporting Lunch

Added on: July 3, 2024

If you had been at Alderley Edge Cricket Club last week, you would have seen a marquee in front of the clubhouse and masses of C&C branding along the walkways up to it. The marquee was hosting the first-ever Alderley Edge Cricket Club Sporting Lunch, and C&C sponsored the whole event.

It was a fantastic opportunity for local and regional businesses to meet up, network and be entertained by ex-Lancs and England cricketer, Paul Allott, along with the legendary ex-Lancashire and England player, ex-England Head Coach and infamous broadcaster, David Lloyd – aka Bumble! Paul took on the role of MC and despite having almost lost his voice before even taking to the stage, Bumble was in top form.

We also heard from Steve Smith, ex-Sale, England and British Lions scrum-half and between them, they kept the laughs flowing all afternoon.

Other familiar faces in the audience included ex-Atomic Kitten singer, Kerry Katona and ex-England defender and World Cup semi-finalist, Mark Wright, who shared his insight into recent England performances!

We were also entertained by Dave Sharp, a speed artist who created an image of Mick Jagger on a 6ft canvas in 10 minutes! It was incredible to watch and he was dancing to Rolling Stones tracks all the time!

Malc says: “What a tremendous day! It was a real pleasure to put our name to this event. It was superbly run, hugely entertaining and a great opportunity for us to promote the C&C brand, including our Private Client and Healthcare divisions. It was fantastic to see so many businesses mixing, meeting and making contacts throughout the day. To say it was a success is an understatement. I’m sure we’ll see this cricket club sporting lunch return in the future.”

As Malc says, events like these are ideal opportunities to introduce the C&C brand to new businesses and private clients. Given that our Alderley Edge office is just around the corner; that we sponsor the club, and that the guest list was bang on our target market, sponsoring the event was almost a no-brainer.

Malc hosted one table, while Tom O’Connell and Corran Barnes hosted two others as we were joined by clients and insurance colleagues.

The event was superbly arranged by Nick Hamilton and Jess Allwright at InConnection who ensured that the day ran so smoothly. And of course, to the catering team at Alderley Edge Cricket Club – it really was impressive cuisine for over 250 guests. The event also raised over £10,000 for the Ronald McDonald House charity, which provides accommodation for families visiting their children in long-term hospital care.

Mick may well have said, ‘You can’t always get what you want…’ but in this case, we certainly did – and some!
