1975 โ a very good year. The Bay City Rollers were rocking it with Bye Bye Baby; The Godfather Part II cleared up at the Oscars, and Bill Gates set up Microsoft. Pete Cooke also co-founded a small insurance brokerage, C&C Insurance Brokers. And here we are, 50 years on, flying higher than ever before.
This summer, we celebrated this milestone with a festival-themed party at Whitebottom Farm in Etherow Country Park. The atmosphere was brilliant with loads of C&C folk catching up with old friends, meeting new faces and having a grand old time. Even the brief appearance of a blizzard of midges didnโt put a dampener on events.
With live music, ping pong, a BBQ, a curry shack and cakes… there was something for everyone. Some made a real festival of it and even stayed over in the Yurts!
Malc gave a wonderful talk, taking us back to the early days of his Dad, Pete, setting up the business with a friend; of how Malc came to join his Dad; of his exhausting six-foot commute across the landing; of how the first office came about, of the early employees and the many, many tales of the laughs between then and now.
Even Malcโs Mum, โQueenieโ Eileen, took to the mic to share her thoughts about what her husband and son have achieved over the years. And I think itโs fair to say that most of us in the audience felt someone must have been chopping onions nearbyโฆ
Naturally, this wasnโt Malcโs last appearance on stage with the mic, but it wouldnโt have been a C&C do without our frontman smashing out some 70s & 80s bangers, would it?!
Malc says: โItโs an incredible achievement to reach 50 years in business. Iโm so proud of where we are, what weโve become and am grateful to everyone who has helped us along the way, from our incredibly loyal clients to our brilliantly talented staff! Mum and Dad could never have anticipated just how successful C&C would become, but itโs their values of putting the client first that have been consistent from day one that have got us here.
C&C Fest was a huge success, and the venue and its staff certainly added to the day. Special mention must go to Debbi, Jayne Dentith, and Joe Fay for organising the event. And to Tracey Langshaw for creating such delicious cakes! Thank you for putting so much into creating such a fantastically memorable event, especially whilst keeping the plates spinning in your day jobs. And a huge thank you to everyone who joined us for making our 50th celebration such a fun day and evening.โ
Looking back at the list at the start of this article, in 1975, C&C was in good company. Little could anyone have guessed at the time just what a truly great company weโd become.
