On 13th June, we sponsored the inaugural Cricket County Championship Golf Day, where all 18 of cricket’s first-class counties challenged to take the crown of the County Championship of Golf! Some big names from the world of leather on willow took part, including, Ryan Sidebottom, Ashley Giles, Tim Munton, Peter Bowler, Michael Lumb, Mike Gatting, ‘the Colonel’ Phil Mustard, Graham Gooch, Matt Maynard, and Tim O’Gorman.
The event was held at Wychwood Golf Club in Crewe and it was a no-brainer for us to support it as the sole sponsor. With C&C already being Club Partners of Lancashire and Yorkshire, this was a stunning opportunity to get our name in front of the whole league. And with 18 teams, it was a shotgun start at 1 pm with two of the teams ably led by Tom from C&C Leeds and Malc. Malc’s team was joined by Lancashire legend, Warren Hegg, and Tom had Ryan Sidebottom from Yorkshire amongst his number.
The weather was typical of the British summer – cold and wet, but despite the elements, the whole day had a fantastic vibe from the moment the players entered the clubhouse.
The course was long and tough but everyone was in great spirits throughout the whole day. The meal afterwards was superb and the room was entertained by Faith Tucker from Britain’s Got Talent.
I suppose at this point, we should mention that Malc’s team actually won it – by a country mile! Their team scored 87 with 2nd place coming in with 82. Yet more silverware for the C&C trophy cabinet!
Malc says: “The whole day, was absolutely world-class! Hats off to John Morris and his team for pulling it all together. As you know, I’ve been on one or two of these things and this was right up there with the best. It was just such a great atmosphere from start to finish. And I’m not just saying this because we won! It’s safe to say, I’m a VERY happy sponsor!”
Tom says: “Did Malc win? I didn’t notice! When they’re done well, days like these are loads of fun but also fantastic opportunities to meet all kinds of people from businesses, clubs and supportive organisations. This day was right up there. If only our golf had been, too! Well done to all the organisers!”
The event was created and delivered by Derbyshire veteran, John Morris, and was raising funds in support of the Professional Cricketers’ Association – the body that has represented the interests of every professional cricketer, regardless of league, for over 50 years.
A great cause. Great exposure for the C&C brand. And an all-round great day out with fantastic folk from the worlds of cricket and business.
