C&C Insurance Brokers Chester continued its support of local causes, when Anita Jones recently attended the Hospice of the Good Shepherd, to collect a Christmas bauble on behalf of C&C. The bauble was presented by Alan Knell, Philanthropy and Relationship Manager at the hospice, following C&C Chester joining their 100 Club.
The 100 Club is a networking group set up by the hospice to both generate much-needed funds and to encourage local businesses to trade and collaborate. The baubles were sold for £125 each and so far 52 have been sold, raising just over £6000 for the charity. With the hospice requiring just under £13,000 a day to run, the bauble sale has pretty much covered half the cost of running the facility on Christmas Day.
The hospice doesn’t just help those with illness. It also provides support and guidance for the families and loved ones of the patients visiting the hospice, whether for respite or palliative care.
Anita says: “It’s such a fantastic cause, providing an essential service, we just want to do whatever we can to support them. Any one of us could find ourselves leaning on them in the future for all manner of reasons. It doesn’t have to be us who’s the patient! There’s a brilliant café there too, and I use the space for a great many meetings. We might as well talk business there whilst raising a few pounds for the hospice over coffee and cake!”
Meeting on a quarterly basis, the hospice is very proactive within the business community and often runs themed events. March will see a ‘Lock Up The Boss’ event which will be held in a court in the Town Hall. Bosses of local firms will be invited to take part and will then be charged with various crimes and locked up in the cells below, with their phones. And there they will stay until they can raise the required funds to be released from the Clink!
The hospice will also be running a Pantomime Horse Race as the first race at Chester Races in August! So, it’s beginning to look like the question facing Malc and Paul is: What do you prefer – going straight and paying to avoid doing time, or the home straight at the Roodee?
Watch this space!
