C&C Midlands Sees Client Service As The Key To Growth

Added on: August 3, 2022

The timing of C&C Insurance Brokers opening a Midlands office feels counterintuitive. Cast your mind back to October 2020. The country was sliding into its second phase of Covid-19 restrictions and yet Phil Caffery and C&C were setting their targets on growth and expansion.

Having previously had roles at Towergate, NIG and Aviva, Phil had bags of experience in the transport, haulage and logistics sector, as well as the motor trade and was looking for a fresh challenge. The opportunity to build a business, almost from scratch and to be able to take responsibility for managing his own P&L was something he relished and so joined C&C Insurance Brokers as Branch Director, with the brief of building a Midlands presence.

Despite the impact of the pandemic, the business is well on course to soon be passing the £1M GWP milestone and has designs on opening a physical office and taking on staff within the next six months or so.

Phil has worked in the insurance industry since he was 16 years old and originally worked in Claims, which he feels gave him a solid grounding and helped him hone his client service skills, which judging by the testimonials he’s receiving, are truly appreciated by his clients. Having been appointed on a case mid-term, a client in the haulage sector recently said of him and C&C:

“You have done more in the last 48 hours than my previous brokers have done in the last 2 years.”

Phil’s region is clearly a huge transport, haulage and logistics hub so there is no shortage of commercial insurance brokers in the Midlands. The challenge is to stand out and provide a service above and beyond the competition. So how is he managing to achieve what so much of the competition isn’t?

Phil puts it down to experience and teamwork:
“There’s no doubt that the pandemic brought challenges in the insurance industry. But I think it’s my thorough and detailed understanding of the sector, which has offset many of these challenges and has really added value to the client experience. Couple that with all the administrative, claims and business development support provided by our head office in Stockport and it’s a powerful driver for success, not just for our clients, but for C&C Insurance Brokers.”

As if to underline the importance delivering top quality client experience, a rescue services client didn’t hold anything back when he recently said of Phil:

“I am not the easiest of customers to deal with. In fact, some may prefer not to deal with me! However, Phil rises to the challenge again and again year after year, always delivering the necessary.”

With the Covid-19 pandemic handbrake now well and truly off and having built strong relationships with clients and potential clients over the last 18 months, Phil sees a successful route ahead and is looking forward to driving the Midlands branch forwards!
